Job Position: Internal Control Specialist, Risk & Audit

Job Summary


  • Reporting to the Managing Director, this is a key role in managing and evaluating the internal control and risk environment within the company.
  • This role is focused on delivery, planning work, and supervising to ensure that all risk assessments, controls and audit are carried out in a timely and professional manner.
  • This includes assessing audit procedures and work programs, improving internal audit documentation, performing risk assessments, preparing summary reports, and briefing and training staff on Company's risk strategies and Initiatives.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Design and prepare annual Audit Plan by applying risk-based approach to ensure every department complies with internal regulations/ policies and established protocols of the company.
  • Develop and maintain the internal audit charter of the company in line with best practices and ensure that the audits address specific areas of risk management.
  • Examine documentation, including reports, statements, records, and memos to gather information for Finance, Operations and Compliance Units for onward management advisory.
  • Verify all in-bound and out-bound information and certify there are adequate approvals and documentation of all daily transactions and operations.
  • Monitor the timely implementation of the management actions recommended in action plans from meetings with the MD and board meetings.
  • Makes recommendations for the best ways for the company to avoid fraud and reduce wastages and block all financial and operational leakages.
  • Periodic verification of all operational policies, processes and guidelines and provide feedback to management.
  • Verify and validate operating procedures of the company and all invoices and other financial and operational documentation.
  • Ensure business risks are identified and management is advised of adequate mitigating factors.
  • Ensure the company’s security is strong, effective and adequate at every point in time, advising management from time to time on areas of risk and how to manage such risks.
  • Analyze and conclude on effectiveness and efficiency of the control environment. Identify control gaps and opportunities for improvement. Works closely with management and process owners to identify process improvement opportunities and work efficiency.
  • Identify key operational, business and financial risks within the company, advise management thereof and propose appropriate controls to mitigate the risks.

Requirements

  • A First Degree in Accountancy, Economics, Finance, and possibly an MBA, certified public accountant (CPA), certified management accountant (CMA) or a chartered financial analyst (CFA).
  • A minimum of 6 years active experience as an Internal Control Specialist within the Capital Markets Industry, preferably a stockbroking firm. This is non negotiable.
  • Risk Management skills, Problem solving skills, Accounting Experience, Project Management Skills, Product Knowledge of a stockbroking firm.
  • Knowledge of Regulatory requirements.
  • Communication skills, Analytical and Organizational skills.
  • Data analytics skills and MS Office Suite.
